Low-tech planted tank setup: step-by-step

1. Set up substrate — 4-6 cm aqua soil, sloped higher at back
2. Add hardscape — rocks + driftwood, off-centre focal points
3. Install light + filter — modest planted LED on timer, gentle-flow filter
4. Fill with dechlorinated water — pour onto a plate to avoid disturbing soil
5. Plant epiphytes on hardscape — Anubias, Java fern, moss tied with cotton thread
6. Plant rooted species — Vals, Crypts, Frogbit floating on surface
7. Add beneficial bacteria — Sunken Garden Good Bacteria to start cycle
8. Cycle for 2-4 weeks — test water; wait for ammonia + nitrite to hit zero
