Aquarium Water Filters & Fish Tank Filters

An aquarium filter is the heart of every healthy fish tank. Through mechanical filtration it removes fish waste and debris, and through biological filtration it grows the beneficial bacteria that turn toxic ammonia into safe water. Whether you need a powerful canister for a planted tank, a simple top filter for a community tank, or a gentle sponge filter for a betta, this collection has the right aquarium water filter — or fish tank filter — for your tank, from trusted brands including Fluval, Aquael, Seachem, OASE and SOBO, with delivery across India.

How to choose the right aquarium filter

Match your filter to two things: your tank size and your flow rate. As a rule, choose a filter that circulates your full tank volume 4–6 times per hour — so a 100-litre (3 ft) tank wants roughly 400–600 litres per hour (LPH). Messy fish like goldfish and cichlids need the higher end; planted and lightly-stocked tanks can sit lower. Always size up slightly, because real-world flow drops once media and hoses are fitted.

Frequently asked questions

Which aquarium filter is best for my fish tank?

For most home tanks a canister filter offers the best balance of power and quiet running; for small tanks under 60 litres a sponge or internal filter is ideal. Match the flow rate to 4–6 times your tank volume per hour.

What size aquarium filter do I need?

Choose a filter rated for your tank volume — a 3 ft (100–120 L) tank needs roughly 400–600 LPH, a 4 ft tank around 800–1,200 LPH. Size up for goldfish and heavily-stocked tanks.

What is the difference between a canister and a HOB filter?

A canister filter sits in the cabinet and holds far more media, making it best for larger or planted tanks; a hang-on-back filter is simpler and more affordable, ideal for tanks under 150 litres.

Do aquarium filters keep water clear?

Yes — a good aquarium water filter combines mechanical filtration to remove debris with biological filtration to grow beneficial bacteria, keeping your tank clear and your fish healthy when paired with regular water changes.

How often should I clean my aquarium filter?

Rinse the mechanical media in old tank water every 2–4 weeks and leave the biological media undisturbed. See our filter cleaning guide.
